Did you ever watch Black Mirro series ?
If not, I highly recommend watching.
Well worth it. (and I confess: for me, " San Junipero" is the best episode of this series that I consider one of the best I've ever seen).
Let's go.
If you've already watched, have you noticed how much similarity there is between the San Jenipero episode and the virtual reality that have been growing through devices like the Gear VR glasses, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift?
For those who have not attended yet (warning: spoiler !!) and will not have time to briefly see two women meet in "San Jenipero" at a local bar called Tucker's in the mid 80's.
From then on the story begins to unfold (in a very interesting way, by the way).
At one point, one of them starts looking for the other in the same bar, and then the thing takes an unexpected and wonderful course: this search ends up happening between scenes in the 80s, 90s and 2000s when finally, they meet again.
How crazy! You get to watch a nostalgic episode very well built and suddenly, it's nothing of what was making sense as a plot.
To shorten SPOILER, anyone who watches comes to the understanding of the whole context: it was two women in their 60s (I believe) who used technology to live within virtual reality. And find "everyone" in there.
But what about the current virtual reality, what is the relationship with "San Jenipero" ??
Well, despite being very incipient (despite great advances every month), today we see some initiatives shy but directed to the context of the episode "San Jenipero": in addition to the glasses mentioned above that plays inside videos and animations in 360 degrees scary russets, buildings that implode with you up there, horror movies etc); Facebok itself has developed a virtual reality platform (VR) where you meet your friends.
Playstation VR, a lot of new 360-degree cameras being released recently, 3D and 360-degree flight simulations, military and corporate training (VR education) and more are examples of what's coming.
Will we find Yorkie and Kelly at Tucker's soon ??
I hope so.
And you, are you ready for virtual reality coming?
